Sadly, when out of coffee, I have been known to scrounge for instant coffee packets from K-ration boxes found in antique desks bought at estate sales for deceased beachcombers who used metal detectors on Easter islandĀ  to uncover Cargo Cult stashes in the early 1960s. Having been stored for decades alongside aging, sweating ammo, pineapple incense, and old desk varnish, there was more kick and fruity overtones in that coffee than when it was freeze-dried in the early ’40s.
